Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. When services are provided remotely, all parties involved must be present on a video call with a working camera and microphone. The notary must visually confirm identity and witness the signing process in real time. Without audio and video, remote notarization or commissioning cannot proceed.

Documents are signed electronically using secure electronic signature tools such as DocuSign. The signing process is guided step by step during the appointment to ensure that documents are completed correctly and in compliance with Ontario requirements.

A Notary Public in Ontario has broader authority than a Commissioner of Oaths. A notary can certify true copies and notarize documents for use outside Ontario or Canada, while a commissioner is limited to administering oaths and declarations within Ontario. At MBLAW Professional Corporation, we provide both notary public and commissioner of oaths services.

Yes. Notary services are provided by appointment to ensure proper document review and availability. Booking in advance also helps confirm whether your service can be provided remotely or requires an in person visit.

You must present valid government issued photo identification. The name on your identification must match the name on the document or be supported by appropriate legal documentation.

Documents in other languages may be notarized or commissioned if the document structure is clear. The notary does not verify the content language but confirms identity and the signing process. Certified translations may be required for certain uses.

Notarized documents are commonly accepted outside Canada, but acceptance depends on the receiving country and authority. Some documents may also require an apostille for international use.

Most appointments take between fifteen and thirty minutes, depending on the number of documents and complexity. Additional time may be required for large document packages.

Yes. Documents can be reviewed in advance to confirm service availability, estimate costs, and avoid delays during the appointment.

Some notary and commissioning services may be provided remotely, depending on the document type and legal requirements in Ontario. Remote services can include commissioning of oaths, affidavits, and statutory declarations where permitted. Other services, such as certain notarizations or identity sensitive documents, require an in person appointment. Availability is confirmed after reviewing your documents.

Notary Service Cost Estimate

The cost of notary services depends on the type of service, number of documents, number of pages, and whether the appointment is in person or remote. Use the service cost calculator to estimate fees before booking. Final pricing is confirmed by the notary after reviewing your documents to ensure the correct service is applied.

The calculator will be available in April 1, 2026

Apostille Services

An apostille is used to confirm the authenticity of Canadian public documents for use in countries that recognize the Hague Apostille Convention. Only Canadian issued documents can be apostilled. Common documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates, powers of attorney, and notarized documents. Apostille requirements vary by document type and destination country.

Immigration Notary Package

For immigration matters, a large number of documents often require notarization, which can significantly increase costs when charged per page. The Immigration Notary Package offers a fixed fee for unlimited pages within one immigration application for one family, covering all individuals included in the same case. This approach provides cost clarity and simplifies preparation for immigration submissions.
